Probably, the best newly added features of express tools on AutoCAD architecture 2008 is the SuperHatch. Many might not agree with me, but for me, this is one of the coolest if not, one of the best addition on AutoCAD so far.

SuperHatch works like the conventional hatch command but it allows you to use an image, a block, xref or WIPEOUT object as a hatch pattern. You can find it under the Express Pulldown menu and under Draw, and on the express tools standard toolbar.

This command is versatile, it’s open up the possibility for you to be more creative. You can use blocks instead of conventional Hatch pattern as your hatch pattern. You can use an image as a hatch, you can also use 3D blocks as a hatch pattern to place repeating items such as bricks, roof tiles or fence fills in a 3D drawing.

Example: Using a block as a hatch pattern.

Place block, and specify the framing around the block,

then Specify boundary,

the Finished hatch.

Only problem with these hatch objects, are they are glued together with unnamed groups. Therefore, you cannot modify a single object from the hatch. The only option for you to modify it, is by using the GROUP command to turn of the selection of the group. From the command prompt, key-in 1.) Group then enter, a dialogue box will pop-up. Then, 2.) check the Include Unnamed box. Then select the group, then 4.) click selectable. Then choose OK.

Thats it, the individual objects can now be modified separately.
