How to dimension an Arc
410 views
Two years ago, when I was still using AutoCAD version 2002 in my work. I always encounter an arc portion of a drawing that need to be measured. The problem that was is, AutoCAD version 2002 was not capable of dimensioning an arc.
So most of the time, I always end up doing a method which I called false dimensioning. A method that will takes some time from you, just to produce a dimension for a single arc.
First thing I did was offset the arc to act as a dimension line, then create a line perpendicular to the arc, then copy an arrow head from my existing dimensions, then measure the actual length of the arc by using command list, then finally put a text on top of the false dimension line.

Now that I’m already using AutoCAD 2008, I’m not resorting to that method anymore. Because Arc Length Dimension is already an added feature of AutoCAD from version 2005 and up.

I am using this software since version R14. As you mentioned the facility of Arc was not there in earlier version of Autocad. I never went into details of looking for this feature.
Thanks for providing information it saves lot of my time.
Since if I have to measure the arc I would have to select and list the properties but now its much easier
giving dimention was another headache
